Full virtualization

In cases where full virtualization is required (e.g., when Windows Server must be used), we have a virtualization cluster consisting of five hosts running VMware vSphere. The cluster is located on the MFF UK campus in Mala Strana and is managed by SISAL.

The cluster's total capacity exceeds 160 CPU cores, 2 TB of RAM, and 350 TB of disk space. The connection from the Mala Strana campus to Troja is provided via a direct fiber-optic link.

This is a service operated by a partner department at Charles University, and we do not currently anticipate any massive usage. In most cases, it is easier to use the web hosting service we operate on a Kubernetes cluster.

If there proves to be significant interest in this service in the future, we will build a new virtualization cluster based on Proxmox VE at the HPC Troja campus.
